The first of our Winter Lecture Series will be held on Saturday, 23 February. We will be welcoming Joseph Whelan, Head Gardener of Nymans in West Sussex. Joe will be discussing the challenges and opportunities of managing a historic garden for the National Trust. Ludwig Messel, along with his head gardener, James Comber, transformed the gardens at Nymans after its acquisition in 1870. They created an Arts & Crafts inspired garden that continued to be developed into the early 20th century. The property has been in the hands of the National Trust since 1953 and the Trust has slowly restored the gardens after significant damage during the Great Storm of 1987. Do join us to hear how different priorities are managed for this extraordinary garden.
