Sarah’s talk will focus on the design and build of The Victoria Garden in Farnham, which was designed by Marion Woodward (SGT trustee), for the Farnham Swimming Baths Trust in 1997. She will explore the detail of its creation and talk more broadly on garden design, while also referencing the rich heritage of Surrey's historic gardens and considering the challenges of conserving them, like this beautiful garden, for future generations.
Sarah Dickinson originally trained as a property lawyer in the City and alongside a second as a professional garden designer, Sarah pursued an interest in garden history with an MSc in the Conservation of Historic Gardens and Cultural Landscapes at Bath University. In 2015, she joined the board of the Gardens Trust, retiring in September 2022, after seven years in the role of vice chair and subsequently chair of the conservation committee. Sarah became chair of Surrey Gardens Trust in 2018. Combining her expertise in garden history, informed conservation and garden and planting design, Sarah is now embarking on a PhD thesis at the University of Buckingham.
